Sigh, another cool crossing in Ohio that is not in my area.ZachL wrote:Those are motor bells! Instead of being powered by magnets (like a standard mechanical bell), they're run by a motor.chris96 wrote:busman_49 wrote:Dryden Rd, Moraine, OH:

(the SORS signs are unusual for Ohio!)
It looks like it's been cut off from the mainline, or badly overgrown:

I'm a little puzzled by what these square boxes are on the back of the bells:

From the front they just look like standard WCH M-Bells.

Abandon crossings in Corinth, New York.

The same crossing above also has a signal beacon (or the remains of a traffic signal that use to be there), bells, two old traffic signals ( the kind with the 8'' green and yellow lights and a 12'' red light), and some odd signals. This might have been a really interesting setup at one point.

Hmm, I have to wonder if that lone beacon hung by the spanwire used to be a full signal at one point.ToledoRailfan wrote:The same crossing above also has a signal beacon (or the remains of a traffic signal that use to be there), bells, two old traffic signals ( the kind with the 8'' green and yellow lights and a 12'' red light), and some odd signals. Re: Tracks out of service
That is what I was thinking too, because it would be weird for there to be two parts of the intersections two have GYR signals and the other side to just have a beacon. In the "Traffic Signals and Highway Signs" about a year or two a go, there was this one intersection that I think was in the New York City Area, this intersection was a three-way intersection, the main street had two pairs of two YYR signals for both directions which the other street had a pair of red signal beacons, most of the time the YYR had their bottom yellow lights flashing and the red signal beacons were flashing, just like a normal Yellow-Red 3-way intersection would operate, but when a pedestrian would come by and push the walk button, the YYR signals would go to red (in a normal sequence from flashing yellow to steady yellow to steady red) and the signal beacon would go to a steady red. So if that light really was a signal beacon and not a GYR signal, I think that I would operate just like that one intersection that I just described but with GYR signals for the main street.ZachL wrote:Hmm, I have to wonder if that lone beacon hung by the spanwire used to be a full signal at one point.ToledoRailfan wrote:The same crossing above also has a signal beacon (or the remains of a traffic signal that use to be there), bells, two old traffic signals ( the kind with the 8'' green and yellow lights and a 12'' red light), and some odd signals. There is also this intersection/crossing that used both regular traffic signals and signal beacons that I found a while back, I thought that was worth mentioning here too.

Although while searching through the "Traffic Signals and Highway Signs" I could not find the intersection that I think was in or near New York City, I did however find the same crossing that in Corinth, New York by chance!

Hmm, I have to wonder how that signal operates when a train is around, and I'm curious to know what the bottom beacons on the "regular" lights are for.ToledoRailfan wrote:That is what I was thinking too, because it would be weird for there to be two parts of the intersections two have GYR signals and the other side to just have a beacon. I thought that was a strange coincidence.

Re: Tracks out of service
Here's a signal foundation that was left behind on the now abandoned L&N Huntsville Branch:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1850363 ... 6656?hl=en
Looks like this may be another one a little bit further up the branch:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.1945311 ... 6656?hl=en
Further down the branch closer to Huntsville, this sign was left behind in Elora, TN:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.015539, ... 1664?hl=en
The tracks would've crossed right about here, and this is where a portion of the branch broke off to go to Fayetteville, TN:
https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0145167 ... 1664?hl=en
And for reference, the tracks were torn out in 1985 or shortly thereafter.
And then finally, here within Huntsville, the remains of a bridge over a creek:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7493158 ... 6656?hl=en
Looks like there may be the remains of another bridge here as well:
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.7357953 ... 6656?hl=en
Though it's right near one of Huntsville's two "Tent Cities", so I'm probably not going over there anytime soon:

I would have to imagine that advance warning sign was not exactly in that position when the tracks were active.ToledoRailfan wrote:This one looks really great with the leaves changing color in Autumn.

This Queensland crossing is definitely out of service. The tracks have also been ripped out of the road...

Metro, why do you keep removing Mechanical bells?!
