Field of Dreams

Post by illinoistrains »

Check out this field in Iowa filled with Antique signals. One one hand, i'm sad to see them in bad shape, but glad to see them preserved.

Interesting how the gates are at near-45 degree angles.

Was there a minature railroad there? Or one planned/hoped for?
Has the room to do it.

Where?

I know where this place is. I've passed by it multiple times. It's located in Oelwein, IA.

In response to Robert's question, there are tracks in place for a miniature railroad, as can be seen here. I don't know how often it's used though. Most, if not all the times I've seen it the last few years, the tracks were overgrown. The bird's eye image shows the property in a decent state with equipment ready to go, so it's probably used once in a while, or in early spring before the grass gets too tall. I took a few of my own pictures, I just have to find them.

On a similar note, this reminded me of something that was on the old forum. There is another man here in Iowa that did something similar. There's a short video of it, which can be seen here. Unfortunately, I do not know where this is located.
