SJVR begins ripping up tracks

Can't have signals without railroads, so talk about your favorite locomotives, railroads and any other (non signal) railroad related stuff.

“As railroaders, abandonment and removal of track is the last thing we want. It is used only when the traffic on a line cannot support continued investment and the costs of normal service. The abandonment process is lengthy, uncertain and expensive. At the end of the rail salvage process, the SJVR will be left with a very slight portion of the investment that was originally made. Think of it as the value that you might receive if you tore down your own home and tried to sell the plumping and the wiring. SVJR and RailAmerica are in the business of running viable railroads: we are not in the business of rail salvage.”

Yeah right, says them...

Hopefully Tulare County can work something out with Union Pacific.

Sad to report but I was in the Porterville area yesterday and the tracks are gone. Where CA Hwy 190 crosses over the tracks, the rails are gone and there are piles of ties along the right of way.

I speak my mind, if you don't like that oh well. I'll have you fill out a hurt feelings report and submit that to my office.
