Gates attached to Cantilevers

Can someone explain to me what these are called? I've always liked this rarer setup than the standard "separate gate" setup. It just seems to make sense that the gates would be attached to the signal as opposed to being separate.

Having the gate mounted on the cantilever works, as long as the gate is positioned way off to the side as shown in these pictures. Of course, this setup would not work in the older days with the wooden "wishbone" type gate because the cantilever would get in the way of the gate operation. I guess maybe it is hard to get away from that habit?

I have seen on super windy days, which we do get here in my area that the gates can bend for enough to get hung up on a visor or even the cantilever itself. I've had to call in a crossing because the gate was stuck on the cantilever and would not go up, thus leaving the lights flashing and people slowing down at the crossing thinking there was a train. The crossing doesn't get used much, so I knew it would be awhile before another train would come and maybe fix the problem without a maintainer getting involved.

Kind of surprised that there isn't some sort of reverser so that if the gate can't go all the way up for some reason it goes back down, then tries to rise again... kind of like a garage door opener. Anybody ever heard of that?

Here's an interesting variation of the Gate on Cantilever signal... with the gate in front, and the cantilever turned to focus on protecting the side street.

I live near these, they're on the barely-in-use and barely-maintained Seminole Gulf Railway Sarasota shortline. I've always been surprised that the railroad (which runs a three-car train maybe once a week, and has done zero track maintenance) had the money to pay for those impressive bridge signals.
