Not a four-quad, but why the extra mast & gate on the left side, but not the right?

My thinking is that there is more of a chance of somebody going the wrong way from that intersection down that side of the road... so they wanted the extra gates there in case that happens.

If that was to happen coming from the other way... cars would have to travel quite a bit down that side of the road and would (hopefully) figure it out before they got to the crossing.

Just my :2cents: worth!

For eastbound lefturn drivers accidentally turning too soon and heading north into the southbound lanes. Elderly and women drivers sometimes do that.
How much did those two extra gates cost?

another thing is that looks like an old street view image. I though that city was going to make the crossings quiet zones too, they could have been caught in the middle of an install of 4-quads :Confused:

Good way for a gate-dodger to get around the crossing. But as said earlier, not needed in the other direction because there's very little chance at all of someone going all that way the wrong way on the other side to get around the gates. (Although EMS might keep it in mind to go around for some reason... IDK)

I'm in EMS and would hate to have the opposing lanes blocked.
But must be SO CAREFUL continuing through a closed crossing. Will not risk it if a train is more than crawling or not distant.

Also hate raised medians. Had to go into opposing lanes at the previous intersection because traffic was backed up behind the intersection ahead.

Many emergency vehicle drivers are so reluctant to proceed in opposing lanes, but it is quite safe.
Oncoming drivers cannot misseeing thEV and can move over well before the EV gets to them.
The greatest complication is approaching from behind and trying to squeeze around stopped vehicles ahead.
(In jammed traffic I was to the right of a woman in lane one (lanes are numbered from left to right). She backed with her wheels turned left, which waswinging the front of her car out towards the right.
Fortunately she saw me motioning to her and stopped before moving into me.)
