They sure managed to cram a lot of lights on this "little" (by comparison) bridge signal.

I wonder why they wasted money on that THREE LANE bridge cantilever instead of two mast signals? I know it is one-way, but just put one mast signal on each shoulder.

you need cantilevers on roads where the mast lights would be obstructed but something.
cantilevers are almost always used on multi lane roads.
I agree thats a lot of lights for that xing, but that cantilever would be one of a few that I would climb on looks nice and sturdy.

That's overkill. It would be wrong to not have a cantilever, however. The reason a cantilever is needed here is that if a vehicle is in the center lane and there are large vehicles in left and right lanes, the driver in the center lane would not be able to see the lights. The MUTCD says cantilevers are to be used if there cannot be one side signal per lane. This rule is often violated, though. having no cantilever on a 6 lane divided street or a 4-lane undivided street is in violation of this rule. These two situations are common around here.

Is this a violation, or are you wrong?

At least that has a gate though.
This one however, does not.
Luckily it's just a very lightly used industrial spur.

Oh, and here is its bigger brother also.
Well, :Censored:

I don't see the problem. If they want to put up a bigger signal, go for it. The more warning the better. People need to stop nowadays.

Yet another good place for lunch Mr. Maintainer. (up on the cantilever)

Cheers,
Joshua
