Oak St. Coal City, IL Closed

Post by TommyBNSF »

Well, congrats BNSF on spending hundreds of thousands of dollars on a completely overhauled crossing at Oak St. and then tearing it out two years later. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueAiLgYjWZ4 I have pictures of these signals, but haven't gotten them to Mike yet (or if ever at this point.) http://www.rxrsignals.net/Illinois/A-K/Coal_City/Oak/

Was the railroad responsible for the decision to close the crossing? Sometimes it is the city or the county that makes that decision.

I don't think the railroad decided on it because the signals remained in place for many months afterward. At first I thought they were just repaving it, but no. So yeah, pretty sure the town closed it.
