Santa Maria Area
Not a lot of RR action around here, but the little shortline Santa Maria Valley RR has lots of classic (and some updated) Griswolds & US&S

Great shots!
Re: Santa Maria Area
Very nice!
But is that last picture a recent photo? Streetview pictures from 2012 paint a different picture: https://www.google.com/maps/@34.926707, ... tTE8lA!2e0

From two or so months ago. Looks like they were refurbishing the signals in 12

Very nice... I love the clear LED's. Union Pacific used to use them here quite a bit a number of years ago. Now I can only think of two installs left with them, and they're not on the mainline, but on the Jewell Sub on old cantilevers. Had to be something UP left behind. I can't see a little shortline like that going out of their way to replace the lights themselves with LED's.
Well,

That line has been SMVRR from the beginning. California requires 12X20/24's when the crossings are overhauled.SirKrunch wrote:Very nice... I love the clear LED's. Re: Santa Maria Area
I'm pretty sure that the MUTCD requires 12 inch lights on crossings now as well. Older 8 inch signals are grandfathered in though and can stay around until the end of their useful service life.gedunk wrote:That line has been SMVRR from the beginning. EDIT: 8 inch lights are still allowed on new installs in the 2009 MUTCD Revisions 1 & 2, so the California MUTCD must be stricter. The California MUTCD is really different anyways...

10-4 on the different. Just about everything else here is different, so why not that too? CA has been requiring 12" for some time. Long before 2009. The requirement for gates went in at the same time. Everything for at least the last 15 years (when I started paying attention) has 12" and gates.freebrickproductions wrote:I'm pretty sure that the MUTCD requires 12 inch lights on crossings now as well.
