Sharonville, Ohio, railroad crossing photos

Post by busman_49 »

My job requires that I go out and periodically inspect railroad crossings around the district and provide documentation and photos of them for our substitute drivers so they are aware of any safety issues at the crossings. Thankfully that provides me with good "hobby fodder" and an excuse to take some photos while getting paid to do it!

Here are my recent offerings:
Kemper Rd (near Reading Rd), Sharonville, Ohio:

This one is kida weird looking... I wonder if the crossing was originally just 2 gates and the cantilever came later on. Odd how the extra set of crossbucks are included. I do apologize for only two photos of the opposing signal; traffic on this particular day was NOT conducive to my running across the street for better photos. I expect to get out here again to better document that signal as well as the lights. NS was doing work over the summer, which I THINK included new gate motors (LED lighting and new gates for sure)

This one isn't much fun to be around when there's a train due to its proximity to the yard (reduced train speeds), but it's an interesting setup. It still retains its mechanical bell, though the gates (and perhaps motors) and the lights were upgraded this past summer. I don't particularly care for the bracketry that holds the gate onto the arm, but it's the better option I've seen outside of a completely separate pole for the gate. There are probably a few pictures I could add onto this gallery as well, but I feel I've done a decent job representing the hardware here.

I posted on this back in crossing signal news; this crossing hasn't been touched by upgrades in a long time (it doesn't even have a bell!), but its time is coming prior to August of this year. In fact, work has already begun and as of this writing, the new bases have arrived and are waiting to be installed. This gallery has all the photos I took back in December, as well as some added photos from February.
For those interested in following the upgrade process, here's the DIS Case Record from PUCO: http://dis.puc.state.oh.us/CaseRecord.a ... 965-RR-FED

Wow, neat to see more Norfolk Southern crossings going LED. It's about time they entered the 21st century, right? :LOL2:
Crossing pictures from Plant City, FL are finally here! viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2538

The Norfolk Southern LED upgrade will be something that we'll have to track.
I'm currently waiting for NS to put up more LEDs here in Madison County, AL other than three LED gate lights at the Derrick Street crossing in Huntsville.
They/Them for me, please.
