Old signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type-2 electronic bell.
New signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a Safetran Type-3 electronic bell.
Old signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type-2 electronic bell.
New signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a Safetran Type-3 electronic bell.

I'm glad I was able to catch a train at this crossing, because this crossing has a pair of old GRS cantilevers at it! As you can see, NS has upgraded the lights and bells to more modern stuff and they are even replacing the signals with new ones, however, the new signals have been up for several months now and they still haven't activated them yet.
They/Them for me, please.

*originally recorded on 12-21-20*

Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a Safetran Type 3 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a dead Safetran Type 3 electronic bell.

This was the fifth and final crossing I chased NS 320 to on December 21st. First off, I'm just gonna go ahead and apologize for the issues my camera had focusing, especially prior to the signals activating and after the signals deactivating, I'll probably see about getting a better day-time video here in the near-ish future.
However, those of y'all who've been following me for a while may remember my previous video of this crossing, back when it still had a classic pair of (upgraded) GRS cantilevers. Sometime after that video and when I revisited Birmingham in 2016, the old signals were removed and the current ones were activated, with no major changes since then. However, in the at most 5 years since the signals were put into service, the Safetran Type 3 on the closer one's already gone dead, somewhat (un?)surprisingly. With this video, however, I only have three signalized crossings left to record on the NS West End District!
You can also see the US 31/US 280 freeway in downtown Birmingham, along with part of the Birmingham skyline on the other side of the crossing.
