Huntsville gets a Brand New Crossing!

No, this isn't an upgrade of an existing crossing, but a brand new one that hadn't existed before! The City of Huntsville is building a new road called "Greenbrier Parkway" to better serve an Industrial Superfund Site the city has created, and a portion of it is already open to serve the new Polaris plant here. IIRC, the original plans for the road had an overpass over the NS Memphis District, but I'm guessing those fell through for one reason or another. Anyways, here's a picture I got of it yesterday afternoon:

That's nice. Here in Melbourne, they don't really build any new crossings anymore. They pretty much always build new road rail crossings as over or underpasses...

Here's Melbourne's newest level crossing (New Street in Brighton).

It (re)opened in 2013 after being closed in 2007 due to an incident involving a train slamming into the handgates at the crossing. (It was the last handgate crossing in Melbourne).

Greenbrier Parkway is now open between Greenbrier Road and Old Highway 20, which means this crossing's now open! Video to come shortly.
