Talk about signals ranging from wigwags to EVA signals here.

Transport Products Corporation?

Post by Josh »

Has anyone ever heard of a signal manufacturer named Transport Products Corporation of Louisville, KY?

I found a couple of unusual, old-looking signals with that name on them, on the bases, light brackets, and gate motors. Louisville, KY made me guess it could be a predecessor of Modern Industries (which was also bought by Harmon)? Or Mike thought it might be a signal company that was bought out by Westinghouse in 1996?

Does anyone have any idea how old these signals may be? The patent numbers listed on the gate motor are from 1937-1941, but I doubt if they're really that old... I'm guessing 1960's or early '70s.

The weirdest thing about these signals is that they are on a heavily-used UP mainline, all other signals along this line are MUCH, MUCH newer. And one of these old signals still has a teardrop bell!

Yep, we have plenty of those mechanisms around here...

Vinewood Ave., Wyandotte, MI has one:

As well as the junction box cover...but it has Griswold Type "B" lights...

Notice how on this mech, it says "Transport Products Company, Fairdale, KY" instead of Louisville, KY....

Transport Products is very early Safetran Style "S" mechanisms.
