CR 20 #2, near Ozark, AL

*originally recorded on 7-28-19*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of US&S 8 inch lights, a WRRS mechanical bell, a WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of US&S 8 inch lights, a dead WRRS mechanical bell, a WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

After catching A724 leaving Dothan, I chased him on up to this crossing. I was thinking of trying to get him at a crossing in Newton, but I didn't think I'd be able to beat him there in time (though I found out on a later chase I would've been able to, actually). Either way, I chased him on up to this crossing just outside of Ozark.

This crossing was another very high-priority crossing for me, and it's pretty easy to see why. Amazingly enough, this crossing has managed to retain a pure gated ACL install! (Or at least, as close as one can get these days.)
Also, interestingly enough, due to the rather sharp angle the tracks cross at, plus a small connector road coming in just on the left, the gates here are angled rather sharply as well. As such, the rear lights were mounted off to the side of the mast, rather than directly on it, due to the wooden gate arms these signals would've had! Most of the lights here also retain their original vandal-guards, which is rather nice as well.
Sadly, the WRRS mechanical bell on the closer signal is dead, though hopefully CSX chooses to fix it rather than replace it. The signals here are also extremely rusty, as you can see, but the signal maintainer(s) here did find the time to at least repaint both WRRS gate mechs, lol. All in all, this is a very nice crossing and I'm quite glad to have been able to record it before any changes were made to it.
The other crossing on CR 20 (which is literally the next crossing south along the line) appears to have originally had a pair of gateless, bell-less ACL signals at it. However, in the early 2000s, CSX replaced the signals there, but kept the crossing gateless and bell-less.
They/Them for me, please.
