Harvard Ave #1 Independence, MO

Signal on the right features a safetran gate mechanism UP Led gate lights, Safetran 12x20 lights with UP Leds retrofitted in them, and a wch mechanical bell
Signal on the left also features a safetran gate mechanism, UP led gate lights, safetran 12x20 lights with UP Leds retrofitted in them, and a wch electronic bell.

I haven't filmed this crossing since August when Amtrak 822 was on the Missouri River Runner. This crossing used to have two wch mechanical bells ( Which can be featured in my vault classics series), but sadly one of the bells died and was replaced with a wch electronic bell. The bell sequence at this crossing is very interesting. The e bell rings from startup until shutdown while the mechanical bell rings from startup until the gates lower, and back again when the gates rise. Nonetheless, this crossing is one of my favorite crossings on the UP Sedalia Subdivision.

Finally was able to film a train at this crossing again. SInce the last time I have filmed here, UP has changed the bell sequence to have the wch mechanical bell ring the entire time the signals are active now. As of now, there are 12 crossings along the Sedalia Sub in Independence that have the bells ring the entire time the signals are active. Only 3 crossings are left with the old MoPac bell sequence. On a side note, this crossing was the site of a pedestrian vs train incident that happened a couple of days ago.

Got another video of this crossing. This time on the wch mechanical bell side. Only changes I have noticed is that some of the Electro-Tech Leds have gotten replaced by GE Dotted Leds, but overall, no major changes have happened here. The wch mechanical bell still rings fine. I suspect that this bell will remain in service for a long time until it starts to die out similar to the bell at Cottage St.

Caught the MNA local here with fellow railfanner and friend, Independence Railfanning. Sorry if I didn't post any of my catches on this forum in awhile. I was really busy with school (before the COVID-19 madness), and work were the reasons I haven't posted anything as much. But, I'm back.

Recorded on 2-3-21. Another vid I've took of this crossing after I caught MNA at Vermont Ave. No changes here since the last vid I've took here. First time catching a double coal train as well. I'll try to get another vid on the mechanical bell side again sometime in the spring.
