*originally recorded on 3-26-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights and 1 pair of Safetran 8 inch lights.
After catching NS A84 in Childersburg, I watched him switch for a bit and then went to downtown Childersburg to film him going under the NS P Line. However, as they were having to sit a while and wait on a track warrant, I eventually just decided head on over here to get my next crossing. On my way over though, I heard the detector just west of Childersburg go off, so I knew they were on their way. Sure enough, after a little while of waiting, A84 came around the corner by the plant, and on through this crossing.
This crossing is quite a nice one, featuring the last pair of 8 inch lights along the NS Rome Line. The signals here were originally installed by the Southern Railway in the 1970s, but it appears that in the 1980s, NS replaced the main lights with the current Safetran 12x24s, though the one pair of side lights here were left alone. Then, in the late-90s, the mechanical bell (I'm guessing the original Safetran mechanical bell) was replaced with the current GS Type 1, which is also still quite nice to see.
Since then, it appears that there have been no major changes to the signals here. In fact, I don't think they've seen a drop of fresh paint in years, with how nicely faded the lights here are! All in all, this is a great little crossing, and I'm glad to have been able to record it.
There's two other crossings in Wilsonville, but they're on the property of the power plant, so I don't think I'd be able to go and document them.
They/Them for me, please.
