CR 85, Vincent, AL
*originally recorded on 4-2-20*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights and a General Signals Type 1 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights.
After catching the coal train, I went and found a bathroom and then decided to head up to Vincent just to see if anything else was coming on the P Line.
However, on my way up, I heard something call the signal at Bon Air heading north, so I quickly raced on up to this crossing, where I was able to catch NS 373 coming through with an SD70ACC leading an AC44C6M and an ES44DC!
He wound-up getting caught by the high and wide detector to the south of here, so he had to stop at the siding in Vincent and set-out a car.
This crossing is another pretty nice one. These signals are some old US&S gateless signals installed by the CofG (most likely back in the 1940s or 50s), and remained mostly unchanged for many years it appears. However, in the late-90s, the bell here was replaced with the current GS Type 1. Then, between 2009 and 2013, the original US&S 8 inch lights on the far signal were upgraded to the current Safetran 12x20s, and both of the original split-crossbuck mounts were replaced. Then, the remaining US&S 8 inch lights on the closer signal were also replaced sometime after 2013.
However, this crossing is still gateless and features a nice GS Type 1, so I'm quite glad I recorded it. This is also the only signalized crossing to actually be within Vincent's town limits (until CSX eventually upgrades their crossbuck crossing, that is).
They/Them for me, please.
