Lee Street, Louisville, KY
*originally recorded on 5-28-20*
Signal on the left: 3 pairs of Harmon 12x24 inch lights, a GRS/WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 3 pairs of Modern Industries 12x20 inch lights, a WRRS mechanical bell, a GRS/WRRS gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On May 28th, Ethan and I went back out to the LCL Subdivision to railfan a bit more. We went out to Lee Street first (since we had just missed Q574 there the day before) to try and get Q574 there again. However, while we were waiting, this long southbound mixed freight (or local freight, as, IIRC, the ID was J758?) came rolling through with an awesome lash-up of an SD40-3 leading an SD40-2, GP40-2, and GP38-3! Certainly one of the best lash-ups I've seen on a CSX train, and definitely the best catch I had from this trip!
This crossing is also quite nice. It appears that originally, there had been an old pair of gated WRRS cantilevers here from the L&N, most likely all with WRRS 8 inch lights. Then, in the 1970s, the L&N replaced both of the cantilevers and lights with newer equipment, though the bells and gate mechanisms were re-used. Then, in the late-90s, the cantilever on the far side was struck and replaced with the current Harmon cantilever. Since then, no major changes have occured here, thankfully.
They/Them for me, please.
