*originally recorded on 7-1-20*

Signal on the left: 2.5 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, 1.5 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a WCH Type 4 electronic bell, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and Dialight gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a WCH Type 3(?) electronic bell, an Invensys Rail gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.

After catching L783 in Pembroke, we chose to set-up in the town of Claxton for our next video. Here we finally get to see L782, though this time around they (sadly) just had a quintet of GP38-2s for power.

This crossing ain't too interesting of a crossing, though that's sadly the case for pretty much every crossing in Claxton these days. It appears that in the early 2010s (like 2011/2012 timeframe), US 280 through town was widened and the corridor along the GC was redone, so pretty much every crossing along this part of the line was upgraded (save for one crossbuck crossing on the west side of town, go figure). However, due to these upgrades, this town features a bunch of Invensys Rail gate mechs, which I haven't really ever seen anywhere else along the GC (a pair of crossings do feature late Safetran ones though, IIRC). Wouldn't be surprised if these were also some of the last signals to be put-up under RailAmerica's ownership.
Since then, most of the crossings have had at least one of the bells replaced with a GS Type 3, if not both of them. This crossing has also had a few upgrades since it was installed, such as the original WCH e-bell on the far signal being replaced with a WCH Type 4 at some point, along with three of the overhead LEDs being replaced. Originally, there were just crossbucks here, so at least these signals didn't replace anything too interesting (unlike a few other crossings in town).
I was originally gonna record a crossing in the downtown area of Claxton, but after not being able to find a good place to park, we decided to set-up here as it still featured a pair of WCH e-bells. There's also a set of Dialight gate lights on the far side, which was nice to see.
They/Them for me, please.
