Pleasant Hill Road, near Townley, AL
*originally recorded on 1-6-21*
Signal on the left: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs and a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Ball LEDs and a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell.
After catching the geometry train, I raced on down to this crossing as H-MEMBIR left the siding to catch it one last time. I didn't chase it or the Geometry train farther, mostly as I wasn't too sure if there was an H-BIRMEM in the area or not (but sadly, there wasn't). Still glad I was able to get the H-MEMBIR one last time though.
This crossing is another nice one, featuring another pair of old BN cantilevers from the 1980s, and a very similar appearance to Old Tuscaloosa Road near Jasper. In fact, this crossing appears to have had a similar equipment history to that one, as this one has received similar upgrades over the years.
In fact, in the 1990s, the BN replaced all of the lights here with Safetran 12 inch lights, though the ones here were all 12x20s (and no 12x24s were mixed in). Then, in the 2000s, the bell here was replaced with a General Signals e-bell by BNSF. The crossing likely remained unchanged up until sometime around when BNSF upgraded Old Tuscaloosa Road, making the same changes here as they did there (upgrading all of the lights to LEDs and 12 inch backgrounds, and replacing the lone General Signals e-bell with a pair of GS Type 3s). Since then, no major changes appear to have occured here, which is nice to see with these older BN cantilevers.
They/Them for me, please.
