Underwood Road, Russellville, AL
*originally recorded on 1-30-21*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO gate lights.
On January 30th, I got on up and got back out to Russellville to do another chase of NS 320 down the NS NA District. Only shot two crossings along the line this time around, but it's not like I have too many left to record at this point, lol. Anyways, after I got here and get set-up, it was only a little while of waiting before NS 320 came through with an AC44C6M leading an SD70ACC on the head-end and an ES44DC working as the mid-train DPU.
This crossing is a pretty standard one, having been installed in about 2011 alongside most of the other signals in Russellville. Prior to that, there were a pair of later Southern Railway signals that could be found here, with Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, and GRS gate mechs. Of course, NS being NS chose to go through and replace all of the old SOU equipment in this city, which is kinda funny to think about as this was also around the same time much of the traffic was taken off of this line.
However, since these signals were installed, it doesn't appear any major changes have occurred to them, which is nice to see, I suppose.
It was thankfully rather cloudy around Russellville on this day, which allowed me to record from the small hill next to the crossing here. IMHO, the angle from this spot is rather nice, so I'm glad I was able to get it. It is worth noting that this is about what most of the rest of the crossings in Russellville will look like, though.
They/Them for me, please.
