17th Avenue, Nashville, TN
*originally recorded on 2-13-21*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a dead WRRS mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with WCH 2nd Generation LEDs, a WRRS mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
After catching the intermodal train at 2nd Avenue, I went back over to the Bruceton Sub (well, technically not, but still) to see if I could get Q125. When I got there though, I found out Q125 had already arrived, and was sitting on all of the crossings waiting for a signal in downtown Nashville.
However, in a way, I suppose it was a bit of a good thing as I either would've had a really long video to upload, or had to edit together two separate clips, which wouldn't've been as fun...
However, once Q125 left, I hung around this crossing and waited for the local to come back through. And after a little while of waiting, Y198 came on back through with the GP38-3 leading long-hood forwards, this time around.
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring a pair of older L&N-era cantilevers. It appears the closer one was installed by the L&N back in the 1960s, with the far one being from the 70s, but I don't know if the far one was a knock-down replacement for another 1960s WRRS cantilever, or if they replaced some older NC&StL-era signals at different times.
Either way though, it appears that up until about 2016, these signals were still pretty much almost entirely original, save for both gate mechanisms being replaced in the 2000s. Then, in 2016, the lights on both signals were upgraded to the current WCH 12x24 inch LED lights. Since then, nothing else major has changed to this crossing, which is nice to see.
Back when Ethan recorded this crossing in 2018, both WRRS bells here were working, which is part of the reason I went to try for this crossing. Unfortunately, the WRRS bell on the far signal wasn't working when I was here, though I don't know if it was just simply frozen due to the cold or if it actually died. Either way, only the WRRS bell on my side worked, which is still neat to see, especially since it's mounted over the road.
Hopefully, CSX fixes the other bell rather than replacing it, and I'm able to get back-up here to get another video of this crossing with both bells working.
You can also see Nashville's 508 sirens in the background as well.

No changes here as of 12-21-22, though both bells were working here this time, likely as one was frozen last time:
