*originally recorded on 6-19-21*

Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x20 inch lights, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.

On June 19th, Ethan and I got on up early and went out to the NS East End District to do some railfanning and try to get the remaining crossings in Alabama documented. While documenting this crossing, we started hearing an eastbound approach so we got set-up and recording. After just a few minutes of waiting, this eastbound mixed freight came through with an AC44C6M and an ES44DC leading on the head-end and a pair of ES44ACs working as the mid-train DPUs.

This crossing is a pretty decent one. It appears that originally, this was a late-70s SOU install, but in the 2000s, the far signal had its lights and bell replaced with the current ones, and the closer signal was replaced entirely. Since then, no major changes seem to have occurred here, outside of the bell on the closer signal getting replaced sometime after 2019, it appears. Thankfully, the far signal still retains its original gate mech installed by the SOU, and the lights on it weren't centered, for some reason. Certainly a neat little signal, may see about trying to film on that side in the future.
They/Them for me, please.
