Woods Chapel Rd, Blue Springs, MO
One of Two crossings on the Mexico Sub I've managed to film at today. I heard this train approach Northern Blvd at around noonish. I decided to head over to Blue Springs to catch it since it was a nice day today. First crossing I chose to film at was this one since it was one I've always wanted to see in action even though it's in a quiet zone (we'll get into that later). Fortunately I heard the train blow its horn for Valley View Rd down the line. Sometime later, the train passed by me with ac4400 4584 leading. Crossing itself is an interesting one. Its a mixture of a 2000's and a 2010s KCS install. This road used to be a 2 lane road without the median up until 2014-2016 when it was widened to accommodate the median and sidewalks. The cantilevers and the lights on them were reused from the old setup while the gated mast signals were replaced with newer ones with Leotek EV Series leds. The old gate mechs were Safetran gate mechs while the lights were Harmon 12x24 lights with Harmon Dotted Leds in them (similar to the cantilever signal's lights). The current gate mechs are Siemens gate mechs. The obvious eyesore of this crossing has got to be the double crossbucks on the mast signals. Trains used to be able to blow their horns for this crossing before it was made into a quiet zone. There is another one in Oak Grove on Robinson Rd. Fortunately both crossings didn't receive wayside horns. Idk if KCS even has wayside horns on their crossings. I did catch this train again over in Odessa.
Proud owner of 7 mechanical bells along with a pair of safetran 12x20 lights and a 8 inch light. Been a fan of trains since I was little. Main place I railfan on, The Sedalia Sub.
