CR 281, Standing Rock, AL
*originally recorded on 2-11-22*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, a dead General Signals (Type 1?) electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, RECO LED gate lights, and an NEG LED gate light.
This was the third and final train I caught on this day. It was the northbound CSX intermodal train with a CM44AC on the head-end and an ET44AH working as the mid-train DPU. I was also able to get a recording of the Standing Rock DD going off after the train passed.
The crossing here is another decent one, featuring a late-90s CSX install. It appears that this crossing had changes being made to it pretty early on, as the far signal had its base replaced with a PPI one. The crossing remained largely unchanged for a long while after that, but sometime between 2016 and 2021, the closer signal had its original GS e-bell replaced with the current NEG e-bell. I believe likely around the same time, though certainly sometime after 2018, the closer signal also had its original Safetran gate mech replaced with the current Siemens gate mech.
The far signal does still retain a diagonally-striped gate arm, however, which is rather nice to see. This crossing is also still incandescent as well, like the other two that I got to record today. However, these were probably the least interesting crossings I filmed on this trip to LaGrange. For whatever reason as well, the crossing remained down a good 40 seconds or so after the train passed.
They/Them for me, please.
