*originally recorded on 1-10-23*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of WCH 8 inch lights, an NEG electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of WRRS 8 inch lights, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On January 10th, I went back up to the CSX Bruceton Subdivision to see about at least chasing M531 along it again. Shortly after I got up here, I heard M531 call a signal to my east, so I went ahead and set-up my camera. A few minutes later, the signals activated and M531 came through with an ET44AH leading an ES44AH for power. Far from the most interesting lash-up out there, but I wasn't going after this train for the power, lol.
This crossing is the easternmost crossing on the Bruceton Sub, and retains a pair of rather nice signals at it. It appears that the signals here were installed back in the 60s or early-70s by the L&N, though in the late-70s the lights on the far signal were replaced with the current WCH 8 inch lights. Then, in the late-90s/2000s, CSX replaced both of the original gate mechanisms here with the current Safetran ones. Finally, sometime between 2017 and 2019, CSX replaced the WRRS mechanical bell here with the current NEG e-bell.
This crossing also features what I believe is the last piece of NC&StL-era equipment on the Bruceton Sub: a US&S base on the far signal. I suspect it was re-used from another crossing, or maybe even an old NC&StL install at this crossing, though I'm not entirely sure if it was originally installed on the far signal when it was first installed, or if the L&N (or another railroad) re-used it here at a later date to replace a damaged Modern Industries base.
Hopefully these signals remain unchanged for many more years to come, but either way, I'm quite glad I got to record them when I did.
