Old Black Oak Road, near Moncks Corner, SC
*originally recorded on 7-27-24*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Safetran 8 inch lights, a Safetran mechanical bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, NEG LED gate lights, and a RECO LED gate light.
After catching CSX I038 in Strawberry, I hit the road and made my way north to this crossing just north of Moncks Corner. After a little bit of waiting, I was able to get my second train of the day here: Amtrak 90 with a P42DC for power!
This crossing is honestly a great one, and I'm glad I got to record it finally. I'd completely missed it back when I visited this area in 2022, only to discover it when looking at street view not too long after. The signals here are a late-70s SCL Safetran install, and are pretty much 100% original, outside of the gate arms, gate lights, and signage of course! I always love seeing these late-70s SCL Safetran installs, especially the ones that are still original like this, so I'm very glad it's still around. Hopefully these classics remain like this for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm glad I got this crossing recorded when I did.
They/Them for me, please.
