Cash For Clunkers Bankrupt!

Post by weatherdan882002 »

http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2009/07 ... s-program/

Not good for my family, as we have an impending car sale! We jumped on it last Saturday, as on Friday, the very first day, they gov't suspended the program until that Monday because websites and phone lines kept crashing due to overloads. We went up Saturday anyway and sealed the deal on a Honda Civic. Ever since then we've gone up to the dealership daily with paperwork as the dealer keeps getting word that the gov't needs more paperwork from us (you know they don't accept copies of anything? They HAVE to have the origional). As a matter of fact, we went up there today with MORE paperwork and as usual, they dealer said he'd call us back in the morning to see what's next. Hopefully he won't call us tomorrow and say we can't get the car anymore! I just took my dad's Toyota Camry, as he was going to get the new car. If we don't get the new car, I'll probably have to give him his car back, which I don't want to do, because I'll be stuck again with a gas guzzler, and what's more, I already registered his car for this academic year at my college!

I REALLY hope our deal goes through!

Our clunker Nissan barely doesn't qualify because it gets 20 MPG, instead of the limit of 18 MPG.

I know how you feel - the truck I used to drive barely missed the cut at 19 MPG. Plus, actually, this whole paperwork thing has us going in circles, and altghough you don't see it online, there's actually 3 WHOLE PAGES worth of requirements that the car needs to meet before it can be traded in. Those who can't do it might be glad they didn't. REDICULOUS. :aaargh:

What else besides paperwork would you expect from a government program?? :glare:

I thought for sure my 8 cylinder Lincoln Town Car would qualify... but it doesn't because it too gets 20 MPH. Or at least it did when it was brand new. I doubt very much it gets that now because it's got 130K on it and it hasn't had a tune up in ages.

Well, they released a report this morning saying that the program is NOT being suspended, but only assessed, and all transactions already made will be honored. That's very good news for us.

Well, that's good....my friends were trying to get me to trade my car in for the cash for clunkers...I didn't want the car payment.

I believe it has to be fully paid off in order to get the deal. Just another requirement the gov't doesn't tell you about...

More good news (or not): the gov't approved $2B more dollars for the program. I've also found out that even if we do get the cut from the program, they have a dealer standing by waiting to buy our van for about the same amount of money they gov't would have paid for it. Therefore, we'd get the new car no matter what!
