As far as I know these are WRRS therefore these have to be nearly 30 + years old. WRRS got bought into Safetran, if I recall correctly.KLM92 wrote:I dunno, looks like a pretty new cantilever to me

Wow im sure glad you posted that, ive been trying to figure out for the longest the chain of companies and who owns who. I couldnt figure out Transport or Raco history to save my life!KLM92 wrote:WRRS was bought out by WCH, in fact WRRS has not existed since 1968 when they were bought out by federal signal. I have a cast aluminum pedestrian crossing signal bell aka mini bell from this era. This is when the Western Cullen Division of Federal Signal papers began to show up in the bells, as is in mine. In 1970 Federal Signal bought Hayes Track Appliance Co. In 1977 WCH became what it is today.
The companies that made up Safetran began with Griswold Signal Company Who was bought out by Raco. Peerless Manufacturing became Transport Products Corp in the 1950's. Transport Products developed the Model S crossing signal (which had the S gate mechanism). Transport Products was bought out by Raco who was bought by Safetran. Safetrans Gate mechs are still designed after TP's, hence the S in the names.

Gateless signals on the Union Pacific north of Auburn, IL. It has Harmon LEDs and the base for a new signal can be seen.

Re: August Photo Of The Month
the crossing doesnt need gates, not many cars go over it a day.

Re: August Photo Of The Month
Yes, but my guess is that they are most likely upgrading for high speed rail... same as which they did north of Springfield.
Every crossing was upgraded, most with 4 quad gates. Even crossings used for access to cornfields now have 2 gates and signals, and they get used only a couple of times a year! There are also several crossings for driveways that have gates.
I've been meaning to make a trip of north to get some pictures, but haven't had a chance yet. With my 2nd job getting ready to start back up in a few weeks, it might be awhile before I can do that.
