After catching the siren test in Germantown on April 12th, @vtgrxrman and I snagged ourselves lunch before heading over to this crossing on the west side of Germantown, as we saw a train was lined west towards us. After a bit of waiting, we wound-up catching NS 285 for the third (and final) time on this day.
This crossing is a very nice one, and is honestly probably the best one we filmed on this day. The signals at this crossing were installed back in the early to mid-90s by NS and are basically still almost entirely original! This crossing also has the last remaining mechanical bell in Germantown, so I'm glad to see it's still around. Interestingly, the bell here rings the entire time the signals are on, which is rather cool to see, though I don't entirely think it's intended to do so. It appears that the bell is supposed to ring when the gates are lowering and raising, but the closer gate (at least) doesn't entirely lower all the way, so the bell remains ringing while the gates are lowered as well.
The crossing also features an extra gateless auxiliary signal on the far side which is rather nice to see. Hopefully this crossing continues to remain unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I was able to get it recorded when I did, especially since I've had it on my radar for quite a while.
