Signal on the left: 2.5 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, 1 WCH 12x24 inch light, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 2 pairs of Modern Industries 12x24 inch lights, a General Signals Type 2 electronic bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
After documenting the abandoned defect detector along what used to be the SCL's Albany Subdivision, my friend and I continued on down to the CSX Nahunta Subdivision in Florida. We went over to this crossing in Boulougne, just south of the Georgia State Line, and got set-up and waited. After less than half an hour of waiting, we were able to catch our first train of the day: CSX M441 with an ES44AH leading an ET44AH for power.
This crossing is a rather nice one, featuring an old ACL-era install at it that I believe is from the 1950s at the latest. It appears that, in the early-1980s, the SBD (or possibly early-CSX?) upgraded the lights here to MI 12x24s, though not too long after that it appears that the front-left light on the far signal was replaced by CSX. Then, in the mid-90s, the gate mech on the far signal was replaced by the current Safetran one. Finally, in the 2000s, CSX replaced both bells here with the current GS Type 2s along with the gate mech on the closer signal with the current Safetran one. Thankfully, since then, pretty much nothing has changed to this old double-mast install from the ACL.
Admittedly, it's kinda impressive that such old signals are still around on a mainline as busy as this part of the A Line, though I'm definitely glad they are. The lights are also nicely faded, and it's nice to see they're still incandescent as well. Hopefully these signals remain unchanged for many more years to come, but, either way, I'm quite glad I was able to record them when I did.
They/Them for me, please.
