*originally recorded on 6-22-25*
Signal on the far left: 1 pair of WCH 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, 2 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, 1 pair of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with Dialight Low Wattage LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a Siemens gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the near left: 2 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, 1.5 pairs of RACO 12x20 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, 1 Safetran 12x20 inch light with a GE Uniform Look LED, a Siemens gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the far right: 1 pair of WCH 12x24 inch light with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran-branded Siemens gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
Signal on the near right: 3 pairs of WCH 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a General Signals Type 3 electronic bell, a US&S Model 95 gate mechanism, and NEG LED gate lights.
This crossing is located in a quiet zone. Trains do not usually blow their horns at this crossing.
After catching Amtrak 52 in Satsuma, I decided to head down to downtown Orlando to wait on Amtrak 40 since it was running rather late. I decided to head for this crossing, since I thought it'd make for a nice crossing to record as my first SunRail crossing. Anyways, after about half an hour of waiting, I was able to get my sixth and final train of the day: the northbound Amtrak Floridian with a Phase V P42DC leading a Phase VII P42DC for power!
This crossing is a rather neat one, and still features a pair of old SCL-era cantilevers at it. The signals here appear to have been originally installed by the SCL back in the late-60s or early-70s, originally with just two gated signals (the one on the right featuring a short mast with only the RACO mechanical bell, RACO gate mech, and RACO "No Right Turn" lights on it) and a gateless off-side cantilever. In the mid-90s, CSX replaced the gate mech on the far cantilever with a Safetran one. Then, in the mid-2000s, CSX replaced the bell on that same signal with a Safetran Type 2 e-bell. The crossing remained largely untouched for a little while after, but, sometime between 2011 and 2013, the newly-formed SunRail replaced the front-right overhead light on the closer cantilever with a reused Safetran 12 inch light head, with the background and visor from the original RACO 12x20 being reused onto it it appears. Then, sometime between 2013 and 2014, SunRail replaced the Safetran Type 2 e-bell here with a GS Type 2 e-bell. After that, sometime between 2014 and 2015, SunRail replaced the remaining RACO gate mech on the lone mast signal here with the current US&S Model 95 gate mech. At about the same time, the far cantilever had its gate mech replaced with a Siemens one, it appears.
In 2019, the crossing would receive a major overhaul in preparation of becoming a quiet zone. The mast signal on the near-right would be replaced entirely, though the old RACO base and US&S Model 95 gate mech would both be reused onto it. All of the lights on the cantilevers here were upgraded to LED, with the RACO 8 inch lights being replaced entirely, and the exit gates were installed. The near cantilever would get a new gate mast added onto it, while the exit gate on the far side was installed in a spot that previously lacked a signal entirely. The crossing would then remain largely unchanged for a few more years, until sometime between 2020 and 2021, when SunRail replaced the original gate mast on the far cantilever with the current one. Thankfully, since then, nothing else too major has changed to this crossing. It's definitely nice to see that both of the original SCL-era cantilevers here still stand in their rather neat configuration with both being on the same side of the road. It's also rather cool seeing that they still retain almost all of their original overhead lights, even if they are now LED. Hopefully they remain here for many more years to come, but I'm glad I was finally able to record them.
