*originally recorded on 11-20-25*
Signal on the left: 2 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
Signal on the right: 4 pairs of Safetran 12x24 inch lights with GE Uniform Look LEDs, a Safetran Hybrid bell, a Safetran gate mechanism, and RECO LED gate lights.
On the morning of November 20th, I got on up and headed out to the CN Champaign Sub to see about recording some crossings on the former IC main, especially ones with Hybrid bells. After seeing the remaining Hybrid in Effingham had been replaced, I decided to continue on up to Sigel, where I found a southbound grain train quickly approaching. As such, I quickly got set-up, and, after a bit of waiting, I was able to catch my first train of the day: a southbound CN grain train with a pair of ES44DCs for power.
This crossing is another great one, featuring a late-90s IC install at it that's still largely original. It appears that the only major change here occurred sometime in the 2010s, when CN upgraded this crossing to LED. Thankfully, since then, nothing else appears to have changed to this crossing. As a result, this crossing still retains what's easily the best feature of this crossing: its original Safetran Hybrid bell! The bell at this crossing is also set the ring the entire time the signals are active, which is great to see. All in all, this is a pretty good crossing and I'm glad I got to start the day with it.
