First update by me, Ethan the Railfanner in 2026, and to start off, I am introducing to everyone, the Florida Panhandle Update! I have decided to use update tiles instead of using generic titles such as the 2-28-26 update, because I feel like it’s gotten overused on my side. So in this case, I’ve decided to combine it and say: “2-28-26 Update: The Florida Panhandle Update” to make it feel like it feels unique.

So what’s in this update? Well, a lot. A lot of good equipment, but the majority of this is mainly just the FGAR P&A, Tallahassee, and the Bainbridge Subdivisions, and this can range from old equipment tracing back to the L&N on the P&A Sub, to old equipment tracking back to the SCL on the Tallahassee and Bainbridge Subdivisions. Both these two were former SAL lines, but the oldest surviving equipment from what I found can only be traced back to the SCL and SBD-eras. There are also some old waysides still standing on the Tallahassee Sub as well, but not much else from that point. The Bay Line Railroad, or BAYL, is also included as well, featuring the rest of its mainline up to the Alabama border all the way to Panama City, where as of 2025, is what the equipment looks like when I was there. Big thank you to freebrickproductions for a note saying it doesn’t reflect what it looks like now post-Hurricane Michael, as I have seen what is looks like from there, so thank you!

What else besides the FGAR and BAYL? The major city of Pensacola, the surrounding suburbs, the CSX PD Subdivision, and the AGR! There’s some interesting equipment in those areas as well, including remnants of when Amtrak operated there until Hurricane Katrina in 2005, more equipment tracing back to the L&N on CSX, and even equipment tracing back to Frisco and the BN on what is now AGR as well. I have moved a few crossings from Pensacola and Cantonment to either Gonzalez or Ensley, as I feel like it got too outdated by 2010-2014 standards, so I rebuilt most of the indexes there. What about on the other side? A small section of the CSX Jacksonville Terminal Subdivision in Baldwin, along with most of the CSX Callahan Subdivision are also in as well, but for those looking to see anything east from Baldwin, I got great news regarding this later below.

While I finished development a few weeks prior, I began starting on a new update which I hope to also get done by the end of next month, as I feel like this is a good time to say that instead of uploading on random days or holidays, I’ve decided to start uploading on the last days of each month. The only holidays on the calendar that reflect the last days of each month are Halloween in October, and New Year’s Eve in December. So, that’s what I’m now doing from this update and beyond, as I feel like it is much easier for me.

So regarding the Florida Panhandle update, because, since the past few years, I have slowly documented more and more crossings across the state, with my past trips to Ocala, Tampa, and Orlando proving that, I had the idea of making 2026 the year of Florida updates, but this sadly fell apart because I still have crossing photos in reserve from many other states, including Indiana, North Carolina, and Louisiana. So instead, I’ve developed a new idea that I think is much better either way: Florida update, then another update focusing on other states, then another Florida update, and then another different state update, and so on. So in this case, maybe look to the last days of April, July, October, and December 2026 as updates for Florida, and look into May, September, and November for updates that focus on other states then, at least by my side. Everyone has a different update schedule, so it isn’t consistent on everyone else. Just me.

And continuing on Florida, I have also updated the rest of the state to match color specific codes on other crossings, including the earliest of the early photos dating back to 2002. Please note that most of this does not reflect on what those crossings look like today in 2026, as most of the equipment has been replaced, especially for Orlando and Winter Park, thanks to SunRail and upgrades during that time. I am working on a timeline on getting those updated by then, along with two week-long trips back to Florida that I’m working on documenting the entire FEC Main, and all of the Miami area. So, keep a look-out for a time when I’ll eventually get the rest of the Florida crossings all on the site!

If you find any errors, let me know, or someone else that I’m connected to know, but I have tried all I could to reduce the amount of errors to as little as possible as I checked links to make sure they don’t lead to dead ends, or other pages, and others. I first developed this update on Windows, but about halfway through, I switched to macOS, so from this update onwards, any new updates will be compiled on macOS, because it is much faster and easier to do than Windows.

Until then, see you next month for when I (hopefully) release a new update to the site on April 30, 2026!

-Ethan the Railfanner

EDIT: Error fix update March 2, 2026:
Fixed a few errors regarding incorrect light frames, dead end links, wrong railroads, and others across a few pages.
Readjusted the number of total photos across Panama City, L-Q, and the entire Florida index.
Added in the crossings moved out of Milton and into other communities onto the forum.
Fixed Deaton Bridge Road in East Milton, FL missing in the index. Readjusted the numbers.
Readjusted the number across what's new in this forum post thread.

EDIT AGAIN: Error fix update March 6, 2026:
Fixed Airport Blvd in Pensacola, FL missing in the index.
Re-adjusted the number of new crossings in Pensacola. Was a bit hard to determine what was updated and what was new.
Various other errors fixed.

EDIT: Slight update March 23, 2026:
As I'm just returning back from Florida once again, I have made the decision to say I won't upload this month. So no update by me on the 31st. I will have to push it to April 30, because the next update isn't done, as I still need to do development on it, and having to balance it between this and getting back to work. So, I'll see you instead on April 30, 2026!

I've also decided that I will not be uploading on the last days of June or September of this month either, and the reason is because since this was a week-long trip that I just took, having a week dedicated to being away from home pauses development on updates, which is why I won't be ready to upload until the end of next month. While I am away for a week, it does mean a new future update ahead, so there's no trade-off what so ever. When I have week-long trips planned in advance, there won't be updates by me at the end of those months. So I re-adjusted what the possible next updates at the end of each month would look like, between Florida and another state, and vice versa.

Almost done with your backlog?
“Always remember to STOP, LOOK, and LISTEN! It’s better to stop and be late than to run through and test fate. So the next time you are at a railroad crossing after you have stopped, looked, and listened, sit back, relax, and take in the sights and sounds of these majestic pieces of American history. It’s not every day that a show is free.” - Railpage.com

Nope. I got a lot on my backlog, which is why I have planned updates coming across the next few months.
