I have returned back just in time! (Or not.) For another update by me, Ethan the Railfanner, presenting you: “The South & West Ohio Update!” This major update covers many crossings across the state of Ohio, almost all within the south and west part of the state, some/many in close proximate with Indiana and Kentucky.

So what’s in this update? Well, I’m glad you asked! This is mixed bag, consisting of crossings along various lines by CSX, IORY, NS, R.J. Corman, and even the CFE! This state, along with others across the midwest, has had various predecessor railroads, so the equipment varies what line is what, but I can certainly say there is equipment dating back to Penn, NYC, then later Conrail, Nickel Plate, among others. (At least more of a mixed bag than my previous update…) Please note that a few crossings in this update might not reflect what they look like in 2026, as by now, as I am aware of some crossings like in Lima that have had changes or replacements entirely, but those will be coming in future updates, just not by me.

I also welcome the first updates to Blanchester, Martinsville, Pleasant Hill, and Wilmington in over 20 years! I am a bit surprised that there were older photos of some of these crossings, but the truth is, being ahead of its time is not always the case, as all of the old webpages are way out of date and not even capable of the modern standards. So I rebuilt whatever page existed from the ground-up, but archived the original page to see what it looked like 20 years ago. I also have fixed a typo that stated Blanchester as “Blachester.”

I have said previously, that I was going to see about uploading at the end of each month. But reflecting back on how long my updates take, I have made the decision to say that the idea of uploading every month is simply impossible, even if I work on my updates a minimum of 6 hours a day. I had high hopes of potentially getting it done back in March, but my Florida Trip to the FEC has basically put that to a stop, so I had to delay it to another month, and here I am, uploading in the middle of the night (at least in the time zone where I am at the time). Consider that this update is similar to my previous update, 11,138 new photos, 382 new crossings, to this one, 10,386 new photos, 434 new crossings. I had a two month development period, and I did all I could to be fast and efficient on doing this, but I did it!

Regarding the decision to not upload every month, I am however keeping my promise that I will alternate between Florida and other states within my updates. Since this update focuses on another state, which in this case, Ohio, this means that I have, or I will start development on another Florida update. What do you think it will cover next? I’ll have the answer when the update is ready!

Just remember: smartphone brands like Apple have had to walk back on certain releases on new products or updates because of development problems and such. So if the brands had to, I can and may have to walk back on decisions that I made, simply because the reality is that it doesn’t go to plan.

If you find any errors, let me know, but once again, since I am busy with work throughout most of the year, with weekends and certain holiday breaks, along with planned road trips coming up throughout the months and years to come, (such as Ft. Lauderdale coming in May), it’ll be hard for me to be at my studio to fix these. But even if I may be away from home, I am still documenting crossings to eventually be in a future update.
