Talk about other non-signal stuff here. Make sure to obey the rules though.

New computer

Post by gedunk »

I finally retired my 6 year old Gateway. That thing has had up to 5 users (including our 3 then teenagers) at one time, and I'm utterly amazed that it continued to run as well as it did for as long as it did. My weekly scan disks and defrags probably helped. I phone shopped around to find how much it would cost to wipe the drive of my old comp, and reinstall XP. Geeeez. It would cost about half of what I paid for the new HP.

Gads. Graduating from 512 meg of ram and a 1 gHz single core chip to an HP with 4 gig of ram and a 2.8 gHz dual-core... I feel like I'm speeding or something.

I can tell now that I have the basic speed DSL service :Awww:

I guess I'll erase the old hard drive myself, but then I won't be able to give the comp away: I erase using a wood splitting maul.

Use Darik's Boot and Nuke to wipe the drive. Free download at http://www.dban.org/. Burn the ISO file to a disc (burn as a bootable disc).
