Pilot Light Question for crossing relay cases

Post by brickbuilder711 »

May not directly be appropriate for this forum, but I have an inquiry. I am by a DTC line. They usually have pilot lights on the bungalows lit up, but lately I noticed they're dark.

My question simply is, does this just mean a train is not on the track or is this a bad indicator that the line may be out of service?

Thanks.

I believe the light indicates that there is power to the relay case. If it's dark, then the light is either burned out or the power is off. Personally, I'd call the 800 number that is (supposed to be) on the exterior and report it. See what they say.

How long has it been since you saw a train? Are the tracks still shiny?

If more than one crossing has the light out, that would be a pretty good indication that power has been cut to them. It would be unlikely for more than one to have a burnt out light.

Rails are still shiny, matter of fact a nearby joint was replaced by a welded piece of rail not too long ago. (Attached)
I'd assume they're saving power, though I may call in when I have the time.
The last time a movement was heard was in September.

The new Viall Avenue 2 relay case has them installed:

IDK if there's one on the other side or not, but I assume there is.
