Neon no left turn signal

Post by cabman701 »

I assume this, quite obviously, activates with the crossing signals. Homemade maybe?

Looks pretty old-tech there. I don't think that was home-made. I think those used to be used ages ago.

surprise to see that ol' NO LEFT TURN gal is still in service! You'd think that would be replaced with incandescant or LED by now.

Neon as traffic control had quite a spike in popularity in the mid-1960's to around 1980. You can still see some of them in old Walk/Dont Walk signals. The problem was that once they began to fail, nobody had prefabbed replacements on hand. It's not like screwing in a replacement lightbulb.

I remember those. Prescott had some around until around 2002 or so. They were "WAIT" and "WALK" signs from what I've seen.

Most of those have been removed around here although a few still hang on.

Here is one in Hillsboro...it's smaller with a screened lens although it is neon.

You think your car gets bad mileage? SP 4449 consumes 10 gallons of bunker oil and 100 gallons of water every mile.
