Portland Applying for Quiet Zones

Post by AndrewFields »

I just read about this. The crossings in question are

NW Naito Parkway
NW 9th Avenue
NW 15th Avenue
NW 17th Avenue

They are hoping to have the application completed by this or next month. :No1:

we can all complain as much as we want about these quiet zones, but we can't really do anything about them. I know its heart breaking to see a crossing go into a quiet zone, but be expecting that in big city areas.

It's clearly political, too. That area of town has residents with money falling out of every imaginable orifice which explains why they got to the head of the line despite being the newest development. That whole area used to be industrial and nobody cared up until recently. Folks in North and Inner Southeast Portland have been trying for years and have been repeatedly ignored. Money talks....and loudly enough to be heard over train horns. :glare:

I got a video of Amtrak coming into town from the north tonight and the engineer really wailed on the horn. I don't know if he did it for me or for kicks. I caught him at BNSF's second to last remaining crossing with dual mechanical bells on Portland's west side and that will likely change with the quiet zone restriction. The video will be posted soon in the vids section.
