What's your definition of a relatively short distance?

I hate Harmon LEDs, plus that is commonly a newer UP setup... Oh, well.

I voted for NS. Not one single signal they have here in the Springfield area has an LED in it. Even with installations that are only a few years old. And that includes gate lights.

LED's are OK... but I have seen way too many of them fail in one way or the other. With incandescent, you pretty much have two options. Working or burnt out... (which can be easily fixed).

They have gone with e-bells on almost every crossing... so I'm guessing it is only a matter of time unfortunately before LED's start popping up.

Ns put up a few crossings around here with Ball L.E.D.s, but all the new stuff I've seen go up is 20" safetran incandescents with safetran gates, Neg gate savers and type 3s. Which sound good for the first 15 seconds then they drive me nuts, thank god ns shuts everything up after the gates lower
heres what they install

Also Up where I live does NOT use harmons they use wch 2nd gen and UP L.E.D.s

and for old signals they upgrade to Up leds

heres a crossing installed in 2005 by BI-State Development Agency (MetroLink)
Image they have GE/harmon fading I love 'em too
Bi-States also uses Dialight FLX-4000 ball LED

Mata Trolley in Memphis Tn installed their first signalized crossing and I HATE IT

RSI leds are commonly used with Rail America Shortline crossings

Csx upgraded a crossing and kept it incandescents

Short line in Missouri near me operates over the old Rock Island/SSW line heres a new crossing they set up

they also use harmon leds

In Houston, UP LEDs, WCH 2nd Generation, Clear LEDs, and Harmon LEDs are the staples for UP.

BNSF uses incandescents, Harmon fading LEDs and General Signals LEDs. Once in a blue moon, they also use WCH clear LEDs.

Yeah, GS 12x24 is a BNSF staple in the Houston area. GS LEDs need to die and never return. :LOL3:
