Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
Interesting.......
------------------------------
This signal seems unnecessary, this signal seems to do the job just fine.
------------------------------
This crossbuck post seems unnecessarily tall, there really isn't much of a hill there. The crossbuck also needs to be replaced.
------------------------------
Private crossing and an interesting steam locomotive!
Appears to be part of some sort of museum.

Re: Google Maps Scavenger Hunt
The height of that crossbuck is more than likely due to the US highway signage standing right in front of it.ToledoRailfan wrote:This crossbuck post seems unnecessarily tall, there really isn't much of a hill there. The crossbuck also needs to be replaced.

I understand that we can see what are clear from your links, however I think it might be best to at least provide a teaser/description instead of just posting the link, because sometimes we might not know what to look for.brett nc railfanner wrote:https://www.google.com/maps/@30.306462, ... 312!8i6656

Check out the traffic light cantilever, and the traffic light pole on the right side. This crossing is from Santa Maria, CA:

That crossing also has 7'' gate lights!cabman701 wrote:Check out the traffic light cantilever, and the traffic light pole on the right side. This crossing is from Santa Maria, CA:

RACO 12x20s on the overhead there!cabman701 wrote:Check out the traffic light cantilever, and the traffic light pole on the right side. This crossing is from Santa Maria, CA:

Looks like the other signal has some too!
https://www.google.com/maps/@34.9387379 ... 6656?hl=en
These are the first RACO 12 inch lights I've seen outside of the SE!
And hexagonal gates too. Sadly, they've been replaced and the crossing now has standard gates with 4 inch gate lights:ToledoRailfan wrote:That crossing also has 7'' gate lights!cabman701 wrote:Check out the traffic light cantilever, and the traffic light pole on the right side. And the gates rising:
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3847871 ... 6?hl=en-US
Three UP SD70Ms for power as well:
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3847023 ... 6?hl=en-US
No idea on who made these incandescent gate lights though:
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3847382 ... 6?hl=en-US
Also, going back in time to 2008, the signal with the WCH e-bell had a mechanical bell. However, the newer 12x24 inch signal replaced another older WCH signal (like the one on the right), but that one had an e-bell!
https://www.google.com/maps/@30.3847423 ... 4?hl=en-US
The one crossbuck likely dates back from before the signals were installed and there were actually 7 tracks there.cabman701 wrote:Someone can't count... (compare the two crossbucks)

They/Them for me, please.
