Re: Tracks out of service
Accidentally came across this abandoned line in Bellevue, Washington. Not sure when it was technically abandoned but Street View makes me consider it was abandoned between 2011-2014. A majority of the line is now a rail-trail, but theres still an abandoned section of it.
First crossing has Safetran cantilievers and Griswold EB gate mechanisms.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6172026 ... 3312!8i665
Next crossing has the same equipment. One of the gates looks new for some reason.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6094051 ... 312!8i6656
Next crossing is a newer installation, despite the lights and gates being removed, the GS type 2 remains on the gate mast.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6051551 ... 312!8i6656
Also, for some reason, a section of the DOT information has been sprayed out.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6051551 ... 312!8i6656
Heres the rail trail section of the line, here is a October 2014 view. This was before the cantilevers were torn out.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6444955 ... 312!8i6656
Heres the crossing in happier times.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6440082 ... 312!8i6656
Heres the old relay case, i suspect this is gone now too, along with the abandoned tracks.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6441711 ... 312!8i6656
Heres an odd crossing that looks new, here it is in 2011.
https://www.google.com/maps/@47.6544427 ... 312!8i6656
However, by 2012. 90% of the equipment was removed except for the bases and the GS bell, and concrete blocks surrounded the ends of the crossing. A street view trekker walked on the tracks for a good track overview. The bases make me suspicious though.

The Woodinville Subdivision! The abandonment of that line was a HUGE mistake. Different sections of the line were sold off to various entities. The line was abandoned in about 2008. The Spirit Of Washington dinner train ran over this line until 2007.NathanFromEngland wrote:Accidentally came across this abandoned line in Bellevue, Washington. Good coverage of the line back in it's heyday.
Fun Fact: In one of my first posts here I talked about this crossing here. The line you posted is the same line as in this shot, just farther north. In other words "Old NP Mainline to Canada".

Re: Tracks out of service
Double post.
Heading west on the old MOPAC Mainline in Colorado starting from the coordinates 38.470806,-103.115981
First Cat Eye
Second Cat Eye
Some classics
More classics
Im loving these old signals!
Third Cat eye crossbuck
WRRS Mini bell?
Fourth Cat eye
Fifth Cat Eye and a Incorrect facing bell?
Heading east from 38.470806,-103.115981
OOS Lineside signals
Other then that most other equipment appears to be newer on the east side rather then the west. Never found a Line with 5 Cat eye bucks still calling home. Alot of the signals on the west side look rather old as well! Im still not good at the maker identification so I am going to guess a lot of the gateless signals are of US&S Heritage.

I think I posted some of that line before. And yes, that is a WRRS mini-bell!

Re: Tracks out of service
Saw this posted on Facebook over the weekend. Not sure if this crossing has been on here before. These signals have somehow survived... one still completely intact, even though the tracks themselves are gone from the road, and it looks as though it has been a long time since a train came through.
Here is the crossing on Streetview. This is a bit northeast of Oxford, North Carolina:
https://www.google.com/maps/@36.329947, ... 6?hl=en-US
Here are the more recent photos from Facebook, including a track view. The overgrowth is pretty insane.

Re: Tracks out of service
I saw that as well. Almost looks like the signals have had a little maintenance after the crossing was taken out of service. You would think that a paved over crossing on a line that has been out of service for 20 years with tracks that are almost completely overgrown wouldn't have signals in such good condition, let alone still having signals in the first place.cabman701 wrote:Saw this posted on Facebook over the weekend.
