On July 10th, I went back up to the Nashville area to see about recording some crossings, hoping to get more on the Nashville Sub. Unfortunately, when I got to this crossing in Brentwood, L696 had already passed through. As such, I hung around and waited, and, after a few hours of waiting, I was able to get my first train of the day: CSX L696 returning to Spring Hill with a SD50-3 leading a GP40-2 for power! CSX kept-on their handful of SD50-3s when they retired all of their SD50-2s a few years ago, so I'm glad to finally be able to get one of these, especially leading!
This crossing is a pretty nice one, featuring what I believe is the largest crossing on the CSX Nashville Subdivision. The signals here were installed by CSX back in the mid-90s, it appears. However, in the late-90s, CSX replaced both bells here with the current GS Type 1s. The crossing remained unchanged for about a decade after that, but then, sometime between 2013 and 2015, the lights here were upgraded to LED. Thankfully, since then, no further major changes appear to have occurred to this crossing.
I will admit, I went to this crossing first thinking I'd get L696 going north here. I also went here because EthantheRailfanner was here the week prior, and found-out it indeed has a pair of GS Type 1s. Amusingly, all of the GS e-bells on the Nashville Sub are Type 1s, which can be found at four of the eight signalized crossings on the line.
